9/28/10 Target Trip

I had to wait a day to cool down before I posted this. I went in for a few items. I ended up spending 45 minutes on the phone with customer relations. Here's what happened:

I went in to get these items:

(3) Glade Odor Solution Floor
(2) Tide Single Packets
(1) Market Pantry Frozen Chicken
(4) Dozen Eggs

I had these coupons:

(3) $1.00 off Glade Odor Solution printable
(3) $1.00 off Glade Odor Solution Target printable
(2) $1.00 off Tide
(1) $2.00 off Market Pantry Frozen Chicken
(2) BOGO Eggs (from Good Egg Project)

The cashier I had was new. She had problems with the Tide coupons. Tia, the customer service person, came over to help. Tia showed her how to enter the coupon. The BOGO egg coupon wouldn't go through either. Tia told me that she would allow me to only use 1 coupon even though I was getting 4 dozen eggs. I asked why and she said that they had the right to limit quantities. I explained that there were 2 shelves of eggs left. She said that she knew but she was limiting me to only using 1 coupon. I told her to take off 2 dozen eggs and I would have my father get 2 dozen and use a coupon. (2 dozen were for him in the first place) Tia then proceeded to tell me that she was limiting my family (my husband, son, father, and me) to only 1 coupon total. I left my husband at the register to finish checking out while I went to the customer service desk to call Customer Relations.

**After I got my eggs, a lady got 6 dozen eggs, checked out with no problems, and left.**

I explained to the Customer Relations representative what happened. Since I was still in the store, she transferred me over to another representative. The 2nd rep had me read the coupon to her (including the number at the bottom). She said she would call the store and speak to Tia and have her take the coupon. I waited for what seemed like forever for her to come back. She said that Tia refuses to take the coupon, despite the fact that she was directed by corporate to do so.

The rep apologized profusely for Tia's lack of customer service. She said she would send me a Target gift card and Tia would be reprimanded for her actions. Before I left the store, the Customer Relations Rep needed to speak to someone at the customer service desk because she wanted to find out how many dozen eggs they had in stock. The lady at the customer service desk (not Tia) told the Customer Relations Rep the item number. When I spoke to the Customer Relations Rep again, she told me the store had 197 dozen eggs! She said the store does have the right to limit the number of items purchased to a reasonable amount per household. She said that she believes that 4 dozen eggs (2 dozen for my house and 2 dozen for my dad) was more than reasonable, especially since another lady got 6 dozen.

So, after 45 minutes on the phone with Customer Relations, I left the store without the eggs, an upset husband, father, and son, and a sense of sticking to my principles! I felt like I was discriminated against because I was using a coupon, plain and simple!!!! I haven't decided if I'm going back to Target or if I'm going to use the gift card I receive as a Christmas gift for someone.

  1. That lady is ridiculous. Possibly losing a customer over a $1 coupon. Atleast your getting a gift card ofr your 45 minutes!
